New Kid in Town

Cap used Monogram's '67 vette convertible, a blown 392, and the Bantam Blast chassis to create this beauty. The model features a scratch built fuel pump, injector nozzles, and front suspension. The seat is formed from brass sheet. Chris also made the parachute, and decals. Paint is HOK candy apple red over ultra gold. Very nice piece, Cap!

Shane describes some of the work he performed in making this excellent replica: The body is mostly scratch built front sheet styrene. The cowl area was from the Lindbergh 34 ford pick-up. The engine was from the stone woods and cook willys (early version with opening doors) the blower was from the AMT 33 willys that was shortened up. the trans is the LaSalle unit I cast in resin from the Miss Deal Studebaker. With work like this, it won't be long before Shane is well-known among car modelers. Nice work, Shane!

Swamp Rat XIII was probably Garlits' most beautiful front-motored dragster. It originally featured a red-painted full-length Tom Hanna body. Like most of Garlits' dragsters, it ended up sans body and painted black. Modeled by MPC, Guy eschewed the kit version and scratchbuilt the chassis and body for his. Built in '90/'91, we're a little disappointed that Guy didn't show it to us sooner!

We wanted to give this model its own place, even though it's a quickie build because of what it's for. Doug built this for George Berejik. Doug tells its story: Sort of a "semi-quick" build (had to get it done quickly because of the health of George Berejik), but it came out OK (Even though I didn't have time to turn it into a sedan, Alan!). Many, many THANKS go out to Jack Smith for his excellent decals. I have extra decals so, when I can dedicate the time needed for a good build, it will be done. A funny sidebar, regarding this model--it was going to be a surprise for George, so I had to rely on information on a 40 year old racecar that I had never seen. Loyed, the driver, was my biggest info guy. We were talking about colors, equipment, what it had in the interior, and, at 75 years old, he remembered everything pretty well. Except for one thing-the car was NOT red and white....it was red and yellow, and George was nice enough to tell me that, quietly, on Sunday. So, I've already started another body for him. It should be easy enough--the body/interior/chassis went together with very little glue--so I MIGHT have new pics later! LMAO!...Doug (Just one question, Doug--will it be a sedan, this time?) |

Bud LeFevre was certainly one of the best modelers around. Unfortunately, we lost Bud to cancer earlier this year. With this Hemi Dart, Bud set out to build a model of the ultimate Super Stocker. We think he pulled it off with this one. His work was never run-of-the-mill, and always provided a lot to look at. Unfortunately, the weekend of the 2009 Detroit Autorama, he ended up in the hospital, and wasn't able to attend. His friend Matt took and entered the model for him, and it paid off in spades! Bud's Dart took the honors for Best Detail, Best Interior, !st in Class and Best in Show! Just goes to show--you can't keep a good man down--even if his arms are full of IV tubes. We all miss you, Bud.
