As we enter our eleventh year, there have been some changes within the e-mail group that spawned this website. While I still maintain ownership of the Yahoo group, I have passed most of the control of the group to a pair of long-time members in Jay Mahnken and Jack Smith. Jay and Jack will be moderating the group, along with Phil Elliott and myself. There may be another couple of additions to the board of directors in the near future. I think the new system will help stabilize some of the volatility we've experienced in the past. Jack and Jay both support the same philosophies that I do in modeling.

The SLM has always been oriented toward advancing car modeling's perception among groups of other "more serious" modelers. I like to think of it as more akin to a graduate course, than Math 101. As long as you are working toward "grad school", we are here to help you achieve your goal. There are many online groups for those of you who are happy building clean, yet basic models--and there's nothing wrong with doing that. We are looking for members who strive for more than just that. We want to help you build replicas that are replicas, and if replicas aren't your bag, we'll be happy to help you build your projects "period-correct." We aren't for everyone. Then again, we were never intended to be.
